Tiny Breed Dog Training

The reason why dog lovers have got this preconceived belief that small breed puppies are more hard to condition than medium sized or large breed dogs, I will never be able to know. Housebreaking a puppy, irrespective of its size should not be problematic.

Small dog training, is in no way different from training a dog of any other larger sized breed. Whereas training any pup will have its peculiarities, related to its breed, practically all other features remain the same, and the technique to training the pup should stay the same, regardless its size.

Never the less, I will grant an allowance here, and agrree that small dog training may present issues in two areas, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy crate training. Even so, this is not because the size of the breed is small, but ten times out of ten, because of the owner.

If a smaller breed puppy dog is aggressive and cannot be disciplined, or if a smaller breed pup cannot be bathroom trained or poses difficulties in being crate trained, it is the owner who has unknowingly contributed to this state of affairs. Let us analyze how and why.

Aggression.

Smallish dogs are liked because they are pretty, they are like playthings. Owners get pleasure from having their pet sit on their laps. This specific indulgence is where the difficulty commences. The basic aggressive character of the dog, is to assert ownership over its sector, its food, even its owner; all canines strive to be the alpha dog.

It is the hostile streak in the puppy that provokes it to place itself on the lap of its owner, particularly when there are lots of persons gathered in the room.

This is a outright act of violence. Instead of chiding the pup, every owner with the exception of none, would fondle the pup, despite the fact it jumped on to their lap without being asked to, developing the aggressive streak in the puppy. By doing this the owner has okayed the pup's instinct to be the alpha dog.

Growling and getting mad at a bigger dog is another clear act of unwanted anger. To the owner, and even the onlookers, this is viewed as cute, just because one dog is tiny while the other is large. Most owners shower affection on the pooch instead of checking it, when it displays this aggression towards a larger dog.

The above are but instances as to why small breed puppies are aggressive, and not because small dog training is very difficult.

Crate Training

Owners have a propensity to haul their small puppies around no matter where they are, even while they are at home and that makes it practically impossible to potty train them

It is, as if by instinct that the owners of smallish breed dogs to cart the animal to the place where the pooch should go to the bathroom and then carry it back into the house.

It is this routine of carrying the pooch to the outdoors to poop that is the root of all roadblocks. In addition, because the pup is by and large carried around so much it has no way of it suggesting to or alerting the owner that it has to poop.

Small dog training commences with treating the dog as any other normal dog. They have to be shown their toilet area on a leash. If owners cease carrying their small sized dogs they would have no troubles in training them.

Dog crate training, is the most exciting part of dog training, and so it can be, even in Small Dog Training.
